Evergreen Line is One Step Closer
Although you may not appreciate the $0.02 gas tax it looks as though this will be paired with ridership increased fares and another measure to be determined to raise the funds necessary for the Evergreen Line to move ahead. The gas tax was just recently approved by city officials and means we are one step closer to seeing the Evergreen Line break ground. The provincial government is committing $583 Million along with Translink’s $400 Million and the federal government’s $471 Million. This is great news for the residents in these communities not to mention those who have been busily buying real estate along this corridor. The benefits to Skytrain are many including better for the environment, affordable transportation, job creation particularly during construction (which we could use right now) and of course, long-term real estate values near Skytrain stations and the route.
The Evergreen Line will connect Lougheed, Port Moody and Coquitlam with 6 new stations:
- Lougheed Town Centre
- Burquitlam Station
- Port Moody Station
- Ioco Station
- Coquitlam Central Station
- Douglas Collage Station
For more information on the Evergreen Line visit www.evergreenline.gov.bc.ca. No exact construction start date has been confirmed but a major milestone has certainly been achieved with the additional funding taking us one step closer to realization!
