Thank You
Noun 1. Thank you – a conversational expression of gratitude or politeness in response to something done or given.
While waiting in line for my morning cappuccino at the local café I observed the “regulars” in line before me grow impatient and agitated because a new individual was learning the till and a new barista was being trained.
Katy, the senior barista smiled and thanked her customers for their patience and understanding. Suddenly, the energy in line turned from tense and impatient to kind and understanding and some customers, while likely late for work, left with a smile on their face.
I observed and then quickly got distracted by a conversation being had between five co-workers sitting at the table across the room who were clearly unhappy with their current working environment and lack of appreciation from their employer.One lady, defeated and on the verge of tears, has been working for the same employer for over 15 years was contemplating quitting her job said the following: “If only I had received some form of acknowledgement or even a thank you I would not be in the position I am today”. All ladies nodded in agreement and expressed their own desires to be acknowledged in the workplace. When is the last time you thanked someone for their effort?
While enjoying my cappuccino on my drive into town during rush hour traffic I contemplated the power of the words “Thank you” only to be cut off abruptly by a red mustang….. No, I did not receive a courteous hand wave from driver. I must admit that I was looking for one. I did however; notice the sign on the back of the bus that was now forcing itself into my lane nearly forcing me off the road. I had to laugh and a smile came across my face: A hand waving and saying “Thanks for the brake”.
Do not underestimate the value of giving thanks.
Today and everyday take the time to smile, acknowledge and give thanks to one another.
